Feeding Therapy in Chicago

Feeding Therapy

Did you know that feeding is the most complex and demanding task an infant needs to learn how to do during their first months of life? For a single swallow we use 26 different muscles to manipulate foods and drinks we have. When one or more of the feeding skills is missing or is out of order, children demonstrate difficulty with drinking and managing foods they eat.

Functional Speech Therapy provides treatment for children with Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD) and/or swallowing (Dysphagia) disorders. Our therapists are trained in evidence-based and effective methods to help children who have feeding challenges. Follow the links below to learn more about feeding milestones and development. Your child’s feeding therapist will set up session/s around your child’s mealtimes and will work with you to enhance mealtime experience, improve oral motor skills for feeding, increase child’s tolerance of new foods, as well as work with you to help your child reduce food aversions and picky eating.
